A huge swan waited, its long neck holding its head at my chest height. On this rested a petite black and white striped cap, and straps secured a similarly patterned stomach pack to its white-feathered body. “Letter for a Miss. L. Oakwood.” The swan’s accent was pure movie New Jersey. Its beak had little sharp serrations like teeth. It thrust out a wing.
