You don't get horror building on religion, so much as they are dealing with exactly the same questions: Where do we go when we die? How did we get here? Does life have any meaning? Is there a God? Why do we suffer? Religions claim to have answered those questions, but the answers are never really very satisfactory for a very long time.... A lot of development in horror film has come as a reaction to the fear of the loss of the belief in God and the fear of the loss of belief in the devil. Horror films, at least some of them, are there to counteract the secularization that is perceived to be taking place."
