This is a bit inconvenient when the PM and Civil Defense Minister are both "working from home" - what happened to the traditional politician photo ops?

And yet even when we see the human & financial impacts of #CycloneGabrielle & Tasman floods, our govt & the corps they support, want more.
✊ We're here to say no to exploitation of #DennistonPlateau & beyond. We are here to fight for a new system where all life forms are valued and in balance.
It’s easy to throw around childish insults - much harder to show true leadership.
🌡️ 🌀 🔥 And we really do need good leadership in the face of the devastating impact of climate disasters, including wildfires in #Ōtautahi, floods in #Tasman, #CycloneGabrielle & bigger #climatedisasters to come.

Two Years On from #CycloneGabrielle
A City in the Dark

I always thought "Devil's Elbow" on SH2 north of Napier was the bit that stuck out at the top of one of the zig-zag climbs over the Tangoio valley (elbows DO stick out).
Turns out it was the hairpin IN the valley!
Immediately after #CycloneGabrielle it looked more of a "Devils Armpit" than elbow..

Last night at the Voyager Media Awards HB Today rightfully won an award for their coverage of #CycloneGabrielle
A highlight of 2023 for me was getting published by The Spinoff who let me tell just one of many stories on Napier's experience in the biggest natural disaster to hit NZ in many years 1/3

In another universe I might he celebrating a "Best Essay" Voyager Award nomination today.
But not this universe.
😕
In 2023 The Spinoff published my #CycloneGabrielle experience.
It will never win a Voyager for Best Essay because the category was scrapped for 2024
But have a read:

The Hits & The Breeze HB extended their breakfast shows today to commemorate 1yr since #CycloneGabrielle .
At midday they had both had a minute's silence/national anthem/reflective music.
Every other station I flicked through was just BAU because simulcast commercial network doesn't care about HB.
After a very scary night, we woke up to this a year ago...😢 So many others had it so much worse #cyclonegabrielle #HBtogether

Hey @Destiny2Team, I and other NZ based Guardians would really appreciate it if, in the next TWAB, you could shout out some links to donate to support people affected by #CycloneGabrielle. We'd love the support of fellow Guardians to help our communities get back on their feet.
… after New York’s experience in Hurricane Sandy, and as it seemed like a rare event, i seem to recall stories about the history of hurricanes in the region being written in the surrounding geology. does Aotearoa have a similar record? #cyclonegabrielle
