Screenshot from our lesson on geometric layers, showing two examples of a timeline (with made-up data just for showcasing): first as overlapping areas – via geom_area(position = "identity") – and one with relative share by simply using position = "fill" instead.

For today's #30DayChartChallenge #Day1 "Part-to-Whole", I'm not sharing a polished #dataviz but a lesser-known #ggplot2 trick 🧙‍♀️

Turn your area chart into a timeline of relative shares by changing the position argument to "fill" 🤙

A equal parliament
48% of the danish parliament are women after the 2026 election.
For the entire parliament 86 members are women, and 93 are men. Some parties are mostly men and some are mostly women, but most are around 50/50.

There was a election in Denmark last week, which resulted in the highest amount of elected women ever!

Been a while since I tried to participate in #30DayChartChallenge, current goal is to make at least 1 chart per category, or whatever time and energy allows :)

With Artemis II’s launch about 4 hours away, time to revisit one of my all-time favorite diagrams. NASA published a series of Translunar/Transearth Trajectory Plotting Charts in the Apollo era, but otherwise I know nothing about them! Search mostly links to auction sites. #artemis #moon #dataviz

This is a column chart. It is a time series of 1997 to 2025. The vertical axis shows the median house price in England for that year. Each year has a bar, which is broken into smaller rectangles, each representing the median earnings for that year. We can see that in 1997, the median house price was 3.5 times median earnings. However, in 2025, the median house price costs 7.6 times median earnings.

I might have had some silly ideas while working on the vis for this release www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopula.... I am happy to have an excuse to do something with it now! Not sure I've made it easier to understand the affordability ratio, but FUN.

A (limited) case for the pie chart.

Pie charts have a bad reputation. We've all seen those messy charts with 37 slices and 37 different colors. But would a stacked 100 % bar chart with 37 segments really be any better?

The background is a pink gradient and the text reads "In 2025, 53 (41%) media workers out of the 129 killed that year were Palestinians killed by Israeli airstrikes (targeted or untargeted)". Below is the image of a bubble chart where each circle represents a country. The bigger the circle, the more journalists killed, and the darker the colour.

The black bubbles show the country with the highest number of deaths that year. The rest of the bubbles are grey. The deaths decreased between 2018 and 2021, and then increased.

In theory the point the sun is highest in the sky should be at noon (12 pm). However due to daylight saving and countries like China with only one time zone noon can actually be as late as 3pm. This #dataviz shows the sun's highest point in the day as the year progresses.

Wrote a blog on the many differences between data centers, one of which is the amount of electricity used for cooling

It's defined by a metric called PUE, and apparently, the lower the PUE (eg the lower the cooling costs), the better the data center #dataviz
