My first dead mall was Hampton Square Mall in Essexville, MI. I posted pictures of it on an Angelfire page in 2003 and the manager was pissed. Demanded I take the pics down or he would sue me for slander. I kept the page up until Angelfire died.

Dick's Sporting Goods will close at Beaver Valley Mall, leaving Boscov's and Rural King as the last anchors of the moribund mall. JCPenney ceased operations last fall.

The amazing Dan Bell finally covered my local Harford Mall for his #Deadmalls series, which is both flattering and depressing all at once.

While two of her older sisters celebrated their 50th year this week (albeit one falling short as an operational center), it's doubtful if The Mall at Tuttle Crossing will reach that milestone, let alone 30 years.

The north central court of Fairlane Town Center. A network of ramps and stairs connect the levels, and the court is capped by a disco bulb lined Octa-Loft elevator. The mall's majestic fountain used to be at the bottom of the frame, but was removed in 2013 for the contemporary searing you see here. Since this photo was taken, the wooden handrails have been painted a matte black.
The central court of Lakeside Mall, showing the 2020 refurbished fountain in full glory, which dates to the mall's opening. While the elevator is out of commission, and various storefronts have changed over the years, this scene remains largely unchanged from the mall's opening. Upon its closure, Lakeside was the last Taubman mall with 90% of its original features intact.
A belated happy birthday to two Taubman gems, both opened 50 years ago on March 2nd, 1976.
Fairlane Town Center heads towards a murky future under mall slumlord Kohan, and Lakeside is closed awaiting demolition.

Fancier versions of Taubman's signature conversational seating enclosures grace the hallways and anchor courts. In addition to lights for the plant and flower beds, tablesude lamps are provided for shoppers needing to sit and relax.

Closing June 30th, 2026 to pave way for redevelopment by the City of Norfolk.
