Letters to the Dead Do you remember the airโraid shelter? I write to you from the ruins of it now, our laughter still echoing down an unlit, uncharted country lane. We called it freedom long before we understood the cost. The bright, frantic creature that was us, debased by dope and trance, energy smothered in the halfโdark of rooms at the end of narrowing corridors. The light drained from my face. Time is a thief with a personal grudge. Friendship slipped away, misplaced like a body no one bothered to claim. Now I keep only a cutโout obituary of what we might have been. A paper relic, a shelter too thin to keep your ghosts. I write to you across the distance between the living and the dead, knowing the dead do not answer, and the living rarely listen.
