5/7 🛢️On July 2, CIEL took center stage with a side event on States’ legal obligations to #Defossilize and protect human rights.
The event highlighted how fossil fuels violate many #HumanRights and what States must do to uphold their duties.
CIEL’s Erika Lennon underscored the urgency:
🗣️ “A decade after the #ParisAgreement, with fossil fuel companies knowing the damage for agees, they’re still stalling #ClimateAction and efforts to #defossilize.”
The ask is clear: adopt a #Conflict-of-Interest policy and #KickBigPollutersOut.
Governments had to pay $80B to the #FossilFuel industry.
🌍 2,600+ #InvestmentTreaties still allow this.
If countries #defossilize without tackling #ISDS, billions could be lost in claims.
➡️ We demand legal reform so public funds fuel #ClimateAction, not corporate payouts.
