Menschen und Fae finden sich während der Regency Era für die „Season“ in ihren Wohnsitzen in London ein: Veranstaltungen, gesehen werden, die passende Person zum Heiraten finden … - Das alles natürlich auch mit einer beliebten Gesellschaftszeitung, die so manches enthüllt! Die Menschen, deren Tests über ihre Zauberfähigkeiten zu schlecht ausgefallen sind, verarmen währenddessen zunehmend, da die Ergebnisse einen Einfluss auf sozialen Status, Beruf und Heirat haben. Roger Barnes hat die Chance, einen Einfluss auf dieses Bewertungssystem zu nehmen. Er arbeitet gewissenhaft an seinem Vorschlag an den Aufsichtsrat: das Testsystem braucht eine Überarbeitung.

Für diese Aufgabe wird ihm vom Vorstand des Aufsichtsrats Wyndham Wrenwhistle (Fae) für eine Zusammenarbeit zugeteilt. Diese ungewollte Konstellation schockiert beide. Roger weiß, dass Wyn ihn seit Kindheitstagen hasst. Jener wäre lieber alleine und in der Natur, als mit Roger in Zauberbüchern zu versinken, um Nachforschungen anzustellen und über menschliche Magie zu lernen. Es wird in dual POV in der 3. Person erzählt. Für mich war es sehr angenehm zu lesen - eins der gemütlichsten Bücher diesen Jahres!
