3D rendering of a diceCT scan of a coiled green tree python, rendered in bright green. Slightly overlapping is a 3D rendering of the python's skeleton, rendered in a light brown color.
It's #WorldSnakeDay so here is a green tree python I CT scanned for #oVertTCN π

Did you know that today is WORLD SNAKE DAY π???
To commemorate that enjoy these pictures of my fave snake person @jcroweriddell.bsky.social and I #diceCT scanning #snakes at @ansto.bsky.social Australian Synchrotron π©» π π§ #WorldSnakeDay
Seven 3D renderings of caecilians (limbless amphibians) arranged on a balck background. Each is rendered in a different color, from left to right and top to bottom: red, teal, electric blue, purple, green, orange, yellow.
Who are those sweet slippery noodles with tiny eyes? Caecilians of course! π₯° I imaged these limbless amphibs for #oVertTCN using #diceCT to enhance the contrast of the soft tissues. You can find the datasets on MorphoSource with the other diceCT amphibians: www.morphosource.org/projects/000... π§ͺ
Had some fun with the microCT yesterday. Iβm excited about these new projects! ππ #diceCT #biomechanics
All scans for this specimen were funded by NSF and #oVertTCN, and are available on MorphoSource, including contrast enhanced #diceCT scans! If you look closely, you can see that I had to digitally re-attach its tail to make the rendering β€οΈβπ©Ή

I chose this specimen to scan because it's preserved in an intimidating position: mouth open, fangs bared! You don't see that very often in collections.
There are also #diceCT scans available on MS for this specimen. Access all CT scans of this specimen here: www.morphosource.org/concern/biol...

@leaveylab.bsky.social: evolutionary biologist with a go-get-em attitude, I'm yet to see a task she wasn't willing to conquer. I worked w Alice on #diceCT frog legs, & now she's shining in her postdoc on chameleons! She's been busy publishing her PhD research: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/...
The last paper coming from my #PhD thesis has just been published in the Journal of Morphology! πΈ We use #diceCT and @fountainscholar.bsky.social 's GoodFibes package to examine how muscle fibre architecture varies across #frogs specialising in jumping, walking and swimming:
doi.org/10.1002/jmor...
If you're looking for some tutorials or resources on CT scanning and you're wondering if #NoCTURN has those too - you would be right!! Learn about #diceCT, software, watch videos, get educational kits, and more! If there's other CT-based help you'd like, just ask π€

We provided new data from micro-CT (including iodine-stained specimens #dicect), histology and scanning electron microscope (#SEM) to generate new standardly-built figures which illustrate the review of the findings associated with turbinals.
First #diceCT scans for @barraza_ilse the new PhD student of the @smnstuttgart.bsky.social working on olfaction in reptiles and amphibians! Follow her for more insights and updates!
Another cool #CTscan and #diceCT scan session with
@gsferreira.bsky.social to be ready for the #ICVM2023 π

With all the #frog vibes flowing through my feed I wanted to share this gorgeous 3D model of the CNS of a Lithobates heckscheri #tadpole. This model was generated from a #diceCT specimen by my brilliant veterinary student Megan Hostetter. sketchfab.com/3d-models/li...
Ever wonder what iodine staining may do to the DNA of museum specimens? As developers and users of #diceCT we did! Check out our paper below where we test DNA quality after staining specimens and provide suggestions on how to protect our collections. academic.oup.com/iob/article/...
I'm an #evolutionary #biologist specialising in πΈπ¦ #digital #dissection and #diceCT, with a passion for #pedagogy. I'm new here, so please point me to relevant people!
Linked below is my most recent paper. It's also my favourite, but don't tell the others I said that...

This project used #diceCT to create contrast enhanced images of muscles.
This midwife toad from Yale Peabody Museum was collected in 1929. When I imaged the #anatomy 94 YEARS LATER using #diceCT, soft tissues were still in *pristine* condition! I segmented out the heart/lungs here π«π« You can download the data from MorphoSource here:

A series of images of a 3D rendering of a CT scan of a green sea turtle head, show the skull rendered in beige, the eye lens rendered in pink, and the scales on the outside of the head rendered in blue, changing from high to low opacity as you move from left to right.
This green sea turtle specimen was fun to #CTscan! Heads that have been removed from bodies are great for getting high res head #anatomy, because you can move the Xray source really close without the rest of the body getting in the way! This image made using a combination of regular & #diceCT scans.
A collection of 3D renderings of contrast-enhanced CT scans of lizards on a black background, with each lizard rendered in a different color, in different rainbow colors as you move down the page.
Lizards are my fave! I did my PhD on Aussie dragon lizards, so they were my very first tomography subjects before I went on to CT all the things! I #diceCT scanned all of these lovely lizard friends for #oVertTCN, & you can get the data for free on MorphoSource: www.morphosource.org/projects/000...
A pygmy boxfish in lateral view, with a 3D rendered density map showing densest tissue in pink, medium density tissues in blue, and low density tissues in dark purple.
Obsessed with this lovely pygmy boxfish (a native to my homeland southern Australia). I #diceCT scanned this one's #anatomy for #oVertTCN π₯° The regular + soft tissue datasets are available for download on MorphoSource: www.morphosource.org/concern/pare...
If you need an escape from... this. I'm giving a talk tomorrow from 11am-noon at the Jackson School of Geosciences, about tomography resources for you. From #oVertTCN to #diceCT to #NoCTURNetwork, I'm giving you everything I've got. It'll be streamed on Zoom, hit me up for a link.
This was a seriously fun case of #NaturalHistoryBycatch from #diceCT data. Very cool to work on a #specimen collected in the 1970's that had these data hidden inside. Just another example of why #CollectionsMatter!
Excited to announce our new #openaccess paper in press at @anatrecord.bsky.social reporting preovipositional embryonic development in the legless #gecko #Lialis! #GeckoEvoDevo #diceCT
