Shameless plug for #diversifymyart. Maybe it will inspire you! #kidlitart bsky.app/profile/lari...
At the moment, I only have time for my own art challenge #diversifymyart (shameless plug) but I like mermay and doggust and then random ones that just happen to cross my feed when I'm in need of a prompt. I like combining from different prompts. #kidlitart
Graphic has a purple crocus blossom and purple text that reads: #DiversifyMyArt March 2026. Use these prompts to inspire diversity in your art this month! 1. Braids/locs. 2. Cerebral palsy. 3. Missing tooth.
Here are the #diversifymyart prompts for March. I was thinking recently how the target age range for picture books matches the age range for when children lose their teeth and yet I hardly see that visible in books. Let's fix that! #kidlitart
While everyone's here, I thought I'd drop the #diversifymyart prompts for February. I'd love you all to try it! #kidlitart
I had a weirdly productive January. Finished Storystorm, wrote 3 new pb drafts, did a couple pieces of art for #diversifymyart. #kidlitart
#DiversifyMyArt prompt for February! I'm only doing a few prompts each month to keep it low pressure. It helps my ADHD brain not give up from being overwhelmed. Feel free to make new art inspired by the prompts or incorporate them into art you're already making. #kidlitart
Thanks! I’ll probably do #diversifymyart but I have to think about how I’m doing the prompts. Happy new year!
Alt3: I really wanted to create art more regularly and I wanted to keep up with the #diversifymyart prompts, but I don't always find the inspiration. The good thing is that I was able to consistently create the prompts so that others could be inspired, so I feel that's a win. #kidlitart

Increasing representation of diversity in illustration: #diversifymyart 2025. September theme is style and bling! This month, let's celebrate how we decorate and express ourselves through fashion, jewelry, tattoos, piercings, hair dye, hair design, fingernails, shoes, makeup, accessories, and more! How is it almost September? But that means it's time for one of my favorite themes for #diversifymyart! This month is Style and Bling! Celebrate how we decorate and express ourselves through fashion, jewelry, tattoos, hair, makeup, and more! #kidlitart
This is amazing! She is beautiful! Thank you for tagging me and for participating in #diversifymyart!

Increasing representation of diversity in illustration: #diversifymyart 2025. August theme is bandages and boo-boos. This month, let's represent characters with boo-boos! Think about things like bandaids, casts, arm slings, crutches, wrist braces, knee tape, ice packs, stitches, scars, cuts and bruises. Graphic shows illustrated yellow sunflowers and orange butterflies on pale beige background.
I realized I missed sharing the #diversifymyart theme for this month. August's theme is "Bandages and Boo-boos"! #kidlitart
Illustration of 30 different faces
Who's your favorite? 😃
I finished my 30 Circles 30 Faces project - as inspired by @drlarisa.bsky.social 's circle exercise and her #diversifymyart initiative.
This was a really nice way to get out of my head, and I ended up with some folks here I'd like to know more about!

Hi #kidlitart! My win is that #diversifymyart has inspired people beyond me. It's so wonderful to hear that what started as a personal challenge is affecting others!
The #DiversifyMyArt theme for June is Diversity of Size and Shape! Time to be unique and thoughtful about your characters height, weight, and literal shape! Triangle shaped bodies anyone? #kidlitart
Alt 3: I already self-promo'ed #diversifymyart and mentioned a couple others. The only time I REALLY use prompts is October because there are so many prompts/challenges. I usually don't get past 10-15 of the daily challenges though. None of them have turned into story ideas yet. #kidlitart
#diversifymyart is a monthly challenge to add diversity to the art you're making (or make new art). This year there is a theme for each month. April is diversity of mobility, so like drawing characters with wheel chairs and walkers and stuff. #kidlitart
Wins...hmm. I didn't draw anything for like a month and I thought my Apple Pencil died for good, but it's fine (phew!) and I finally had the mojo to sketch something yesterday for #diversifymyart. Hopefully I can finish it to post before the end of the month. #kidlitart
A little girl with long brown hair is sitting in bed with pleading eyes, holding a stuffed horse. Her hand is on top of a picture book with a unicorn on the cover. The white bed sheets have a blue horse pattern.
– Can we read it one more time, pleaaaaaase?!
Nod to all little kids who love horses and unicorns (like I did) and the perfect book for them: "Ten Minutes to Bed - Little Unicorn!" by Rhiannon Fielding and Chris Chatterton.

Increasing representation of diversity in illustration: #diversifymyart 2025. April theme is Diversity of Mobility. This month, focus on the variety of ways people move! Manual wheel chairs, power chairs, walkers, canes, crutches, scooters, prosthetics. Don't forget to make your settings accessible! Graphic is white with dark gray lettering and decorated with blue and yellow illustrated flowers and leaves.
Hey #kidlitart, if you want to incorporate #diversifymyart prompts into your projects, the theme for April is “Diversity of Mobility”. Try to switch up how some of your characters get around. And pretty please get more adventurous than just a manual wheel chair (though they would be great too).
Picturebook illustration postcard. A girl wiggles a wobbly tooth while looking in the bathroom mirror. She has hearing aids and pink hair. Hovering nearby, the tooth fairy impatiently looks at her watch. Lots of teeth to collect today!
Another #KidLitArtPostcard day! It's also #WorldBookDay !

Digital color drawing of a little girl with blonde hair, blue eyes and pink glasses. She has a cute crooked smile and a lazy eye.

I thought I'd share one of my pieces for #DiversifyMyArt with the theme of increasing representation of vision differences.

I'm not at the postcard part of my journey yet, but I try to make at least one post a month for my #diversifymyart challenge. I typically share it on IG and here which helps validate the effort. #kidlitart
My wins for the month were making a couple of quick pieces for #diversifymyart. #kidlitart
Digital drawing of two sheep in a field with blue sky. One sheep has brown wool and one has dark gray wool. Both sheep have a black face and black legs.
I always try to think about how the #diversifymyart prompts can apply to animals. This month is "diversity of skin". We illustrators sometimes default to white versions of animals but why not brown or black or spotted? Are you being intentional about your color choice for your animal characters?
