What if this game takes place in the past Yoshi’s Island style. There was recently a theory that the modern DK redesign is actually a grown up version of DK jr.. this was supported by the evidence that: A) it’s based on the movie design where in DK was referred to as Cranky’s son instead of his grandson. B) one of the teaser images for Mario Kart World was of the original 8 next to the 16 bit sprites from Super Mario Kart and they put DK next to the DK jr. sprite Now that raises the question of “if this is adult DK jr. then how could Pauline be young when she was an adult in the original Donkey Kong arcade game?” Well what if they aren’t the same character either? There has been a fun little video game theory that the Jump Man in the arcade game is actually Mario’s father (and before anyone brings it up I distinctly remember hearing this theory long before Game Theory ever touched it.) so the same might be said for the “Pauline” in that game. And I have some evidence that can back it up. In Smash Bros Ultimate there is technically two spirits for Pauline. A standalone one and one for Donkey Kong and LADY, not Donkey Kong and Pauline. The separate spirit might indicate that Nintendo considers modern day Pauline separate from the one in DK arcade. Or maybe it’s a time travel thing like partners in time and I’m thinking way too hard about this.
