A bull #ElephantSeal moving at astonishing speed at the #rookery on #DrakesBeach, #PointReyes, CA, on January 22, 2026. The beach is closed, and the parking lot is fenced in with a thick, wooden fence that does not pose an obstacle to a large male, should he choose to lounge in the parking lot.

In this picture taken from #DrakesBeach, we are looking west toward the western-most area of the #PointReyes Peninsula, which is a bit to the left just outside the frame. That's where the lighthouse is located that was featured in John Carpenter's 1980 horror movie #TheFog.

The #bluffs at #DrakesBeach reminded the newly arrived English of the famous white Cliffs of Dover when they arrived there in 1579.

That's my "I was here" footprint on #DrakesBeach, #PointReyes Peninsula, CA. No apostrophe in Drakes because it's the name of a place.

The Bay is named after her Majesty's explorer/privateer (pirate with papers) #SirFrancisDrake, whose ship #GoldenHind (formerly Pelican) arrived here in 1579.

I saw a Northern #ElephantSeal taking a nap in a parking lot at #DrakesBeach (Pt. Reyes Peninsula), CA. The beach is a #BreedingGround. These animals can weigh up to 2.5 tons and reach 5 m in length.
