Hey artists!
(Especially if you're a follower)
What would motivate you to join in #Drawbettertogether?
I'll keep doing this either way, but I'd love to know if there's anything I can do to achieve the "together" part of the name more ๐
a brick wall seen through a window; loosely spraypainted Text between the wall and window reads: "The window of opportunity - Pick a window to look through - Draw what you see - That's all!"
Oops, almost forgot to post a challenge for this week!
A bit of a simpler one this time, but it's a good prompt to practice landscape/background drawing

This was actually so fun, I normally don't draw animals because I'm intimidated by the biology and textures, but it was so satisfying!
10/10 - highly recommend doing this exercise
text: Feathers, Fur or Fins Draw an animal adapted to live in other environments Think about what the animal would need ot change to suit their new home: - Skin Covering - Limbs - Body Shape - Eating - Breathing You can look at other animals in the new home for ideas. Imagine them adapted to various changes: - Shape (Mountains? Trees?) - Temperature (Hot or cold?) - Competition (Prey? Predator?) - Space (open? cramped?) - Sleep (Day or night?) - Weather (Rain? wind?) also pictured for demonstration - 3 horses, one with the usual legs, another with bird wings, and another with a seahorse tail
I got way overexcited with this prompt, so if it feels like too much the basic version is to just draw an animal with a different skin, which is still great practice!
(e.g. a cat with fish scales / a frog with feathers / an elephant with a crab shell)

in a golden frame on a backdrop of oil painted scenery Text: #DrawBetterTogether Disaster Study Image: The original Mona Lisa in a thought bubble from the painting, text: "select an artwork to study. any piece that inspires you. does not have to be 'fine art' you can study from comics, manga, cartoons, meme art or anything else." an arrow leads to a second image of Mona Lisa, this time a stylised copy from a pink panther cartoon with no background and wrong colours. in a thought bubble from the drawing, text: "Identify the key techniques that make tha artwork iconic (colour pallette, line quality, shading, etc). Recreate the artwork as well as possible without using those techniques."
Happy New Year Artists!
We're back, and "should" be more consistent now since I've mapped out 48 exercises to post in the future if inspiration/feedback don't come to me in time.
Master studies are a great way to learn, but I thought this would be more fun!
#DrawBetterTogether #DBTDisasterStudy
I put this one off, but in the end it wasn't as hard as I expected.
I'm still not sure if I understand why these look right so I could repeat it in another context, but this is a start at least.

Rendering of an Elf woman looking at viewer.
#drawbettertogether
Spent some time practicing color on my tablet!
Its so fun when you can ctrl+z the oopsies!
No new #drawbettertogether this week, boosting #DBTHangLoose for another week instead.
Hang Loose Drawing Challenge Get Some Fabric (a sheet, a shirt, a tablecloth...) Drape it over/hang it off another object Pictured: physics simulation images of a cloth over a ball, a box, hanging along an edge and hanging from a point Draw the result (Focus on shapes/shadows) Repeat until page is full Pictured, the same 4 examples as above represented as uncoloured line drawings
#drawbettertogether #DBTHangLoose
Obviously this is practice for clothing, but experiment with unusual shapes, angles, twists, pulls, etc etc.
Focus on the 3d shape minus any pattern/texture
Switching up the fabric is good too if you can/want
Use IRL reference, but no need to post photos of it
For my #drawbettertogether repeat homework I decided to re-do the very first exercise.
Colour wasn't part of the original prompt, but I wanted to add them, so I did ๐คฃ
Variety of heads drawn with different expressions.
#drawbettertogether #DBTfaceyourfeelings
This was a lot of fun! Its also a good way of practicing heads in general.
Now- I need to actually put an OC to paper to meet Santa Sully!
Forgot to post a challenge this week, but instead I'll encourage you to do any previously posted #beginnerartclub or #drawbettertogether challenge that especially speaks to you
#drawbettertogether #DBTfaceyourfeelings
This was so hard for me, and I don't feel like I did a very good job either.
I think if I did this again I'd make it a wheel rather than a chart, it might feel more natural to combine specific emotions, rather than trying to 'find' a feeling to fit a gap...
#drawbettertogether
Here's my input for last week- drawing hands.
Its been hard for me to focus on a single subject for a while, and I can see that on these hands. :)
Artists Challenge! ~face~ your feelings Divide your page into a grid like this chart is a rectangle divided into 4 quadrants labelled "negative - postitive" and "expected - unexpected" Then fill it in with expressions that fit The same chart again, filled in with characters from 'Inside out' to represent the various points on the chart.
#drawbettertogether #DBTfaceyourfeelings
Use whatever labels you like on your grid: some other ideas are hot/cold, big/small, love/hate, or however else you can imagine a wide range of expressions!
The idea is to try a wide range of expressions, so try to draw them smaller with and less detail.
#beginnerartclub is dead, long live #drawbettertogether.
The concept and goals are the same, only:
1- I've separated it from my own art, so you can follow it, me, both or neither at your discretion (I'm really hoping people activate the notifs!)
2- removed the 'beginner' judgement from the name
Use #drawbettertogether, tag @drawbettertogether.bsky.social, reply or QRP your submission so that we see it!
Feedback is encouraged by default; tag #nofeedback if you'd prefer not (or you can disable comments!)
Submit any exercise at any time and do as many or as few as you feel like.
#drawbettertogether is public and free, it's not a school or a business and I'm not your boss, you can do what you want.
Whatever your skill level we'd love to see your attempt.
Let's practice and grow our skills together!
