Photographic plate with wrinkly gelatine emulsion, that had softened and started to delaminate from the glass plate during developing.

Kinda fun effect, but in reality an unintended emulsion lift on my hand coated 9x12 plate. (Rodinal likes attacking unhardened emulsions, but I had forgotten that 😂)
Wipe the plate and re-use or hold on to it?

A glass dry plate photograph taken in the deserts north of Phoenix, AZ. The remoteness of many of the deserts of Arizona can be both comforting as well as dangerous under the wrong conditions.

Hiking out into the desert with a handful of plates has become a new hobby of mine. The images really transport you back in time.

I enjoy repairing and using antique cameras. This week I built a film holder to use in what I initially thought was a non-functioning toy, but is actually a fully usable ‘Yen Camera’! (35mm for scale)
It uses ~25mm x 50mm glass plates.

A photograph of a dry plate photograph during the development process. In the photo, the plate can be seen during its final wash to ensure any fixer chemical is removed before drying.

Making things more difficult than they need to be is part of film photography, in my opinion.

In that spirit, why not shoot some dry plates?
