The moment you artificially separate “what’s inside the person” from “what’s outside them,” you are no longer studying behaviour; you are studying an abstraction that doesn’t quite exist #DISC #ecologicalpsychology
We’re entering a new season of insight here at VGI! Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing reflections on ecological psychology, stories from our community and ways our graduates are applying this work to create social and ecological change. 🌱

New paper alert: perceptual learning of novel objects is optimal when primed by an affordance and when observed from a typical viewpoint while moving: journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/... Kudos to my co-authors Catherine Dowell and McKenzie Gunter! #ecologicalpsychology #affordance
🌱 Excited to read this. It promises fresh insights into cognition. Exploring concepts like embodied, enactive, and extended cognition is crucial for understanding how we interact with our world. #Neuroscience #EcologicalPsychology #Cognition
My students and I have published a review of Julia Blau 's and Jeffrey Wagman 's book on Ecological Psychology:

This looks very cool. I don't think the dates work for me, but definitely hoping to be able to attend a future event.

Why are we all talking about 'affordances' & what are they? A life given to the future and a look into the ideas of ecological psychology & the work of JJ Gibson with his student Harry Heft. The concept of affordances continues to provoke debate in the wider ecological community, and more specifically within the study of music, where the term has started to make increasingly frequent appearances. The adoption of this powerful idea by a range of authors interested in the human engagement with music is not without its problems, stemming from different attitudes to what musicking (to use Christopher Small’s neologism) can be understood to afford. In this paper I consider some of those possibilities – ranging from the manifest affordances of physical instruments in the hands of suitably attuned players, to the social and empathic affordances of collective musicking – and raise questions about possibilities and limits.
What does musicking afford?

Would anybody be interested in reading/providing feedback on a paper draft on how human's long period of post-natal dependency makes us social? #enactivism #ecologicalpsychology #developmentalpsychology
