4/ People stayed till 10 to keep chatting. I really hope things will change. At the very least this was A MUCH better consultation meeting than in the past wh left parents crying in frustration and people being told what they were & weren't allowed to talk about. #EdConvo18

2/ there was a call for a 3-6 pm school with a fresh roster of teachers to teach the curriculum, help with homework, and also bring in community knowledge around things like hands on learning, languages, etc #EdConvo18

Today some of my adults with intellectual disabilities did an adapted @TalkingMats to share their thoughts about the #edconvo18. They told me what they wanted schools to do MORE of, to STOP doing, and START DOING. They soon started telling us what to write. @TraceyMartinMP

Going to a private school after Hay Park did help turn me into a massive socialist though. So that’s something. #EdConvo18

Evidence suggests that being exposed to ethnic diversity in childhood (not adulthood or even adolescence) predicts interracial partnering, potentially due to inoculation against racism. One of the reasons that increasing ethnic segregation in NZ schools worries me. #EdConvo18

So... what does one do when a child says "school is bad" and you visit and you think.. hmm actually for YOU and YOUR learning needs, you have a valid point. This isn't behaviour. This is a child communicating, you are getting it totally wrong for me. #edconvo18

2/ ... build a system that identifies all students with learning needs that cause barriers to accessing the curriculum the pairs students and learning communities with the needed supports to address the needs. Both intervention and accommodations. Remove competition. #EdConvo18
