A bolour photograph in portrait format. It shows a close up view, from above, of the carved face of a lady from the 16th century. The sympathetic face looks to one side, an Elizabethan ruff and head dress frame her face. It is a shame that the carving has been spoiled (probably Reformation damage). I admit I was surprised to see in the carving that she has her eyes open!

The mason has beautifully rendered an image of a lady on the Sir Thomas Wharton tomb at Kirkby Stephen Parish Church. Carved in the 16th Century.
