The Oxford Languages dictionary defines embrasure as "an opening in a wall or parapet that is bevelled or splayed out on the inside, typically one around a window or door."
In this case, as with most embrasures designed for archers, the opening is a long narrow vertical slit (showing here as a bright light in the midst of shadow) opening into a wide and deep "splayed" space that provides the archer room to move side to side behind the thick wall without exposing himself to attackers on the outside.
