I'm not feeling well right now in general. I'm trying my best to keep up with the news and maintain a level head, and I'm surprisingly alright for the most part. But for the foreseeable future my creative & patience for minor social annoyances will be at rock bottom. Expect radio silence #emilebarks
My boss and I made negotiations for something that will work better for me. I might still at least get paid for the pending vacation I'll still take in June and I could use whatever money I can get right now seeing how things are. I'm just happy to not be working 5 days a week anymore #emilebarks
It's official. Switching to part-time work Friday-Sun so we'll see if I still have to get up at 3AM or what (hopefully not) #emilebarks

I shall put you in Mine Salad #emilebarks
I feel like the guy who jacks off exclusively to pics of nature except it's chaste medieval chivalric romance literature #emilebarks
The bricks were already laid and I am merely adding to it in my mind palace #emilebarks
Chrétien isn't a freak like me so he totally missed the opportunity to write an entire page about Alexander burying his face in his own shirt while kissing the embroidered strands of Soredamors' golden hair, and he's also jacking off while he's at it. But it's ok. I'm imagining it #emilebarks
sorry this sounds incomprehensible i've had 3 beers because my sister's husband brought a pack of guinness.. but yeah this all is just scary and i'm really sad about it. not just for me but i've been thinking about my mom and dad too, how much they sacrificed. just for this #emilebarks
it's ironic and sad. like, imagine your latino parents immigrating to the US because it was like this golden land where anyone could attain wealth given they worked hard enough... but that's just never been a thing. it's all a lie. and now your kids grow up having to flee like you did :( #emilebarks
i was in dublin for a short while in 2015 but the entire trip made me realize there's so much more than this stupid country and that i just don't want to be here anymore. i know mom and dad worked hard to get us a better life here in the US but... we gotta get out man #emilebarks
my sister's thinking of moving to scotland with her husband n kid and she SPECIFICALLY thought of me while she was looking that + ireland and i was like whoa. you won't believe this but i've been dying to go back to ireland someday.. maybe this is my sign to go back #emilebarks
Time to replay the forbidden game #emilebarks
Mini thread of the summer months as songs from my playlist #emilebarks
May - it's usually windy here at this time of year before the start of the wet season; big things happening usually, I ❤️ May
Meeting up with an old friend over lunch today and watching my fave artist draw my pookie in his stream (he usually does weekend streams so I could never join due to work). Life is good #emilebarks
Also "...dark asaden" is killing me i love tumblr #emilebarks
don't worry guys i have a plan (throw him in the janitor's closet and i lock myself in the writing room to fix his manga #emilebarks
Actually you know what. I was checking to see the subreddit for my company and apparently everyone is expecting things to become an absolute shitshow within the coming weeks. I'm gonna call my manager tomorrow and ask to confront him in-person about quitting🙏🏽 I hate working for him #emilebarks
EDIT: I think we both meant to say Mufasa but their point still stands😌 #emilebarks

There's much more to say but perhaps the fact that this film is yet another retelling of a centuries-old poem is cyclical in itself. Yet another iteration of Gawain. Hence the nature of the film's opening #emilebarks
We find ourselves trapped within these cycles. Our every move already planned out by another's wit. I'd argue that both Poem and Film Gawain never had a say in anything, a big part of it being medieval chivalric code, but A24 appeals to a modern audience with its emphasis on legacy #emilebarks
The film uses imagery of spinning wheels and the change of seasons—from one year to the next, that is a cycle. In the poem, it was revealed that the game had always been a test of the merit of King Arthur's court; it was all planned from the beginning. That, in its own way, is a cycle #emilebarks
A24's Gawain, as cited by many who've watched it, is a story about legacy. While legacy (and image) is pretty big in both the film and poem (hence why Gawain stubbornly set out to fulfill his oath)... I think the film is about agency too, and cycles #emilebarks
Again I can't be too harsh with it because I honestly think they really made the most of their medium to tell a version of Gawain where knighthood comes into question more than it ever did in the poem. Where our protagonist is put through even more mindbreaking trials than in the og #emilebarks
From memory I recall the film expanded on what the poem omitted, but in exchange left out the great hunting scene. I also didn't love the Green Knight's design- though I understand you have to cater to the GOT crowd #emilebarks
Now that I've finished reading Gawain I want to rewatch A24's adaptation of the poem to think on the ways in which the film succeeds and/or fails at being faithful to the core themes of the book (though I think it goes beyond that- it transforms the story into something more than it was) #emilebarks
The situation at work is kind of looking worse than I thought, I'll still try to work out something and get demoted to part-time, but I'm not sure I want to hold out even another month as a full-timer #emilebarks
