He was 23 when he stepped into a role no one born in America had ever held before.

His name was Gershom Mendes Seixas. At a time when Jewish life was fragile and uncertain, he helped make sure it didn't disappear.

You’ve probably never heard her name, but her work changed how we understand life at the molecular level. Mildred Cohn helped transform biochemistry from inference into precision, giving scientists new ways to see how life actually works.

He changed how we understand cancer, but his story is complicated. Otto Warburg made one of the most important discoveries in modern biology while living in Nazi Germany, a place that defined him by ancestry he did not fully claim.

Most scientists who worked on the atomic bomb stayed. One did not. Joseph Rotblat walked away from the Manhattan Project on moral grounds, before the bombs were dropped, and before most of his colleagues were willing to ask whether they should be.

Most people have heard of the atomic bomb, but far fewer know the man who coneived the science behind it. Leo Szilard saw what was coming before almost anyone else, and spent years trying to warn the world.

I read your series and try to stretch my imagination to understand the horror these Holocaust survivors endured.

I find it hard with Lali: forced to steal humanity from his fellow victims, his people, every day.

His ability to build a life after the war is truly a testament to #EternalLight.

At Auschwitz-Birkenau, prisoners were reduced to numbers. Lali Sokolov was forced to make that happen… tattooing those numbers onto others. He survived the camp, and he found love there. For decades after the war, he rarely spoke about what he experienced.

When I read your #EternalLight series, I’m always struck by the sheer courage of these people who saved lives.

They had everything to lose. They didn’t have to act. But their conscience was stronger than their fear.

May we all have a conscience like theirs.

Ara Jeretzian isn’t a widely known name. But in 1944 Budapest, as persecution closed in, he helped save around 400 Jewish lives… not with weapons, but by transforming an ordinary clinic into something far more powerful. A place where people could disappear and survive.
