Last week, I was invited to speak at an official #EU conference about trust in communities, institutions and tech.
So I spoke about Gaza. About the hypocrisy of the European Union calling itself a champion of human rights while enabling genocide in Palestine.

Sometimes less is more : Choosing the right platform (where your audience is!), being human and focusing on your audience to build authentic engagement was a key recommendation of Daniela Späth from Deutsche Welle at #EuroPCom.
No wonder #disinformation is increasing: social media #influencers have more followers than many news outlets, and 40% of people surveyed say they are avoiding news these days, notes Nic Newman of @reutersinstitute.bsky.social at #EuroPCom
#AI is increasingly being used by #publicsector communications for translation, social media posts and content creation, say #EuroPCom participants.
However, #transparency and #dataprivacy are key challenges that must be addressed if we are to truly integrate AI and maintain trust in our comms. 😉
When asked "What does breaking the noise mean for you?" #EuroPCom participants said that engagement, getting your message across, and reaching new audiences were key objectives.
Yet building trust is essential if we really want to make an impact, added Zermina Toghey of @C40Cities.Bsky.social

#EuropCom @KBlb111 Most participation processes focus on the individual point of view, "what do _you_ think about this". This is OK, but it should be complemented with a more "we" approach, trying to understand others' positions, trying to build for the common interest.
#EuropCom @redpath42 Participatory democracy is _not_ in conflict with representative democracy. On the contrary, they positively feed back each other.

Probablement la major preocupació de la Unió Europea avui, per sobre de qualsevol altre problema.
La por a la desconnexió del ciutadà es torna pànic quan es pensa en un futur on els joves d'avui s'han despenjat de la política comunitària demà.

#EuropCom @catherinedvries asks for a simplification of the message(s).
Don't know. There's a trade-off here.
Too simple is a shortcut towards populism.
Too complex is sure a way to lose people.
Were's the balance?
Can we "educate" citizens and help them understand the complex?
#EuropCom @catherinedvries makes a crucial point: you may adhere to the idea of Europe, and just do not like the way it is implemented/executed.
Let's not take criticism towards EU policies for criticism to the idea of Europe.
+1000 with this point.
One hour already into #EuropCom and everything about communication actually is about _talking_ to people.
Not a word about _listening_ to people.
Very much looking for two-way communication between European institutions and citizens.
