A fan made drawing of Princess Daisy from the Mario games and her family portrait. Daisy is a child, sitting on her father's lap. Her father, the King of Sarasaland, is sitting on his thrown, and his aunt Lilly is standing next to him with one hand in his shoulder. Both aunt Lilly and the King have serious expressions while Daisy has a big smile, showing off her missing tooth.

I'm going to be busy the next few days, and I'm stuck on how I wanna colour this one. Sooo here's the drawing cuz who knows when it'll get done!!! 😅

The Musée de l’Orangerie describes this painting as one of French artist Henri Matisse’s masterworks, and its force comes from balance rather than drama: different moods, discordant colors, and layered spatial effects held in visual equilibrium.

Three young women sit close together before a warm brown background, their bodies arranged in a compact triangular grouping that fills the canvas. The sitters are generally identified as the Arpino sisters: Loreta (often written Laurette or Lorette), Rosa, and Maria Elena Arpino. All three are dark-haired young women with light to olive skin tones, shown in distinct but interrelated poses. Two look outward with calm, self-possessed expressions, while the third turns inward, absorbed in a large book. Their dresses differ in color and pattern, creating rhythm rather than uniformity. Matisse simplifies faces, hands, and fabric into broad, deliberate shapes, so the sisters read both as individuals and as parts of a carefully ordered whole. The setting is spare and compressed, drawing attention to posture, gaze, and the tension between intimacy and separateness.

The museum also notes possible inspirations ranging from Manet and Japanese prints to Les dames de Gand, then attributed to David, while also revisiting the motif in related versions now associated with the Barnes Foundation. Painted in 1917, this work stands at a transitional moment in Matisse’s career, just as he was pushing portraiture toward greater formal clarity and emotional compression. The sisters become more than sitters. They form a living structure through which Matisse explores harmony built from difference via attention and withdrawal, individuality and kinship, plus softness and design.

I haven't done this geometric embellishment in a loooong time but a client requested it so I got to run it back! I think it turned out cute! #stitchpeople #crossstitch #embroidery #needlepoint #familyportrait

Painted in 1946, the work is a threshold-portrait of the artist’s only daughter poised between adolescence and adulthood, with “graduation dress” signaling achievement while the intimate scale and close cropping keep it tender and personal. Born in Catalonia and shaped by European modernism before building a life in the United States, Pere Francesc Daura i Garcia (commonly known as Pierre Daura) often returned to his family as his most enduring subject, making portraits that function like a visual autobiography.

Here, a young adult Martha sits in a large chair looking down toward our right. Her light skin is modeled with soft transitions of shadow and warmth, giving her cheek and chin a quiet, lived-in presence rather than a posed perfection. Medium-brown hair is gathered into thick, smooth braids. She wears a bright white dress that catches the light and frames her neck with pearl necklace and shoulders. The simplicity of the fabric makes her face and hair the visual anchor of the composition. The background is muted and unobtrusive with earthy, gray-green tones that recede so Martha’s calm expression and attentive stillness come forward.

Martha’s averted gaze creates the feeling of someone being observed in a private moment while also introducing agency and interiority. She is seen, but not claimed, and the restrained palette keeps emotion present without turning sentimental.

Pierre’s wife, Louise Heron Blair Daura went to Paris to study art, painted alongside Pierre, and made striking portraits and landscapes that reveal a distinct eye that was often direct, psychologically attentive, and grounded in everyday life. Their partnership wasn’t just domestic; it was creative, too, with both artists sometimes circling the same people and subjects, showing how two different sensibilities can honor the same world.

Martha was a major steward of the family’s legacy. She helped ensure that the Georgia Museum of Art became the primary custodian Daura’s work.

Remember when I posted the wood slice ornament prep? Well here is some more of that project. I don’t always do everything at the table in my videos. That’s why you sometimes see jumps in progress.
