Release v7.1.17 · nanos/FediFetcher This release is just updating some dependencies. What's Changed Bump requests from 2.32.3 to 2.32.4 by @dependabot[bot] in #200 Bump urllib3 from 1.26.19 to 2.5.0 by @dependabot[bot] in #201 Bump ...

I have released v7.1.17 of #FediFetcher this morning.

This is a simple maintenance release, only updating dependencies.

If you are still using FediFetcher you should probably update as these fix some security vulnerabilities.

@owiecc

Wcześniej można było sobie radzić #FediFetcher-em albo dodatkiem do przeglądarki. No ale teraz to będzie rozwiązanie systemowe :)

I spent some time thinking about the options available for fetching missing replies in mastodon over the last few days since the 4.4 release, and wrote them down.

I'm honestly not sure how helpful this is, but I published it on my blog anyway […]

Michael (@michael@thms.uk) Several people have asked me whether this makes FediFetcher obsolete. I thought I'd put out a more public response to this question: Unfortunately I don't think I can retire FediFetcher just yet, as it still has some utility: Firstly, FediFetcher can fetch context proactively without having to expand posts. (Eg one of my favourite features of FediFetcher is that it pro-actively pulls in replies to posts in my home timeline. I personally wouldn't really want to miss out on this.) Secondly, FediFetcher can also backfill profiles - something that Mastodon is still unable to do, and, as far as I can tell, has no intention of implementing. Thirdly, it'll likely still be a while until these changes are available in any released versions, and likely even longer until 3rd party apps have support for it. I do hope it’s the beginning of the end of FediFetcher, but imo we are not there just yet! Obviously other users of FediFetcher may have different opinions, and if - once this is released - you personally are happy with Mastodon's built in ‘on demand' context fetch, you should stop using FediFetcher to relieve pressure from your home instance. #mastoadmin #fedifetcher

@mr_daemon I haven't turned it on yet, but the creator of #FediFetcher has commented on it

In about 4 weeks time the GitHub Action will likely cease working, unless you perform a manual update at least once every 60 days.

@sn0n@mastodon.social @Mastodon@mastodon.social @activitypub@lemmy.ml It's because servers are not all aware of one another. Something like #FediFetcher is a partial solution. But even that isn't perfect. Relays also exist. But it would be very nice if all of the various Fediverse software […]

As you probably know, the Action recently stopped working, and we need to find a solution to this.

If you are running FediFetcher as a GitHub Action it is really important that you read this Issue as well, as it contains additional important information.

TL;DR: versions prior to 7.1.16 are no longer working when running as GitHub Action. Version 7.1.16 will cease working in 60 days, unless […]

I've (successfully) tried out Fedifetcher recently and got curious after seeing some instances (misskey.io in this case) "blocking fedifetcher via their robots.txt", so I checked them manually and found they were actually not blocking anything.

After some investigating the result was that […]

Incidentally, I was recently asked about the current status of #FediFetcher because apparently it’s now stale.

@aku thanks for your kind words!

Toying with #fedifetcher today. Turns out the fediverse is more active than I thought! Super neat being able to see all the replies from where you are. I uh, hope it's not too expensive to be running it though, I'll have to see if it's less fetches when done incrementally.

Hot on the heels of 7.1.0 comes 7.1.1 which fixes a couple of bugs.

You should probably update to 7.1.1 if you can:
