Yes, Finland survived. But not without paying a price. And then only barely, more due to luck than anything else.

To someone who doesn't really know what #finlandization was, and/or thinks that small countries and their inhabitants don't have agency in the Great Game, it may sound like a decent solution for "buffer states" (notice the lack of agency) like #Ukraine.

This is one of the more notorious cases of what #finlandization meant in practice. In short, USSR thought the game was "pro-Star Wars propaganda" (as in Reagan's SDI) and sought to forbid it from being sold in Finland, threatening to treat the issue as a "serious provocation".

#Finlandization bedeutet Neutralität, die aber auf Kosten der Souveränität geht. Finnland hat sich letztlich lieber für die NATO entschieden. Weil eine Neutralität, die auf das Wohlwollen Russlands angewiesen ist, bei Putins Russland keine Grundlage hat.
