My shadow is front and center at the bottom of the frame. I am taking a photo of a fogbow that is in the distance, across a large field of brown, dry grass and vegetation. The sky is blue above, then the white fogbow which forms from a thin layer of fog. Fogbows are white because the water particles are so fine that they do not have the prism effect of larger drops in rainbows. They only show up when your back is to the sun at a low angle and thinning fog. This is in Laguna Lake Open Space in San Luis Obispo, California

This image shows a huge white fog bow (a rainbow, but white only) stretching across a distant valley to Bishop Peak, culminating at the mountain top and a cloud. The valley and mountains are bright green and the sky is bright blue, but there was enough fog in the air to produce the fogbow. Located at Los Osos valley and Bishop Peak. Another fogbow, but this one is smaller and has formed over an open field of dry, brown grass. In order to see a fogbow, you must have your back to the sun while the sun is shining through thin fog. It will appear in the form of an arch. My shadow is in the center under the fogbow. There is fog hovering over the field and hills in the distance, while the sky above is blue. This is in Laguna Lake Open Space in San Luis Obispo, California.

This photo was taken while standing at the top of Cerro San Luis Obispo, California. It's looking out at the green hills, valley and mountains of San Luis Obispo and Los Osos. The sky is blue with a few clouds, but there is enough moisture in the sky to form a huge fogbow that stretches miles. A fogbow is white because the water droplets are smaller than a rainbow's, so the prism effect doesn't occur, separating the colors into bands like a rainbow.

As fog lifted on a sunny day in the Oregon Coast Range, we were treated to a fogbow, caused by sunlight refracting through droplets of fog. They lack much color, and are somewhat rare, so it was a treat to see.
