A smirking jester rides on the back of a distressed looking man in Renaissance robes and cloak who staggers towards the door of an inn, where we can just see the tail of a dog who has wandered in ahead of him. Under the man's left foot, some playing cards lie on the ground.

A woman in medieval dress rides backwards on a goose. In one hand she waves a slightly suggestively shaped distaff, recalling the "Narrenwurst" carried by medieval jesters; in the other she grasps a fox with one of her chickens in his mouth.
