We arrived in Iceland in September and inquired about seeing puffins. Our gracious wait-person told us that the birds had already mostly left for the winter, but said our best chance to see stragglers was to take the ferry to Vestmannaeyjar (the Westman Islands). I’m happy to report that it was the best advice we could have received, because we not only saw puffins, but epic views in every direction. 🇮🇸

It began snowing just as we left our car for the hike up to the pools. By the time we were halfway up, the late afternoon sun broke through the clouds, bathing the pools and snow covered Black Cuillin Mountains in magnificent light.
