#FontsOnFriday Parish churches like Medmenham's St Peter & St Paul offer "silence & slow time" inside, & the harmonious singing of birds in the churchyard.

[I try to disregard the impudent squawking of the Ring-necked Parakeets (Psittacula krameri)!]

Handsome C19th font & cover.

#FontsOnFriday at St Peter's, Daylesford, built by J L Pearson in 1860 for Harman Grisewood.

C19th ten-sided stone font with rather elegant marble colonnettes around base; wooden lid with foliate wrought iron decoration.

A thoroughly enjoyable Victorian country church, kindly unlocked for us.

The font in the church at Bradfield St Clare with the arms of the St Clare family in the background. Seems the name went from family to village to church.

At West Overton the font, guarded by an eagle, takes central stage underneath the tall west tower which Charles Ponting completed in 1883 as part of his rather grand gothic rebuild for such a small village. #FontsOnFriday #Wiltshire

I’m heading for Dartington this morning so here’s the granite font which was moved from old St Mary’s behind the Hall to the new church at Huxham’s Cross

Probably 15th century, though The pedestal and marble base are more recent.

St Marnarch’s Church, Lanreath Cornwall

A Norman font with Jacobean cover

The guidebook describes it as carved from Catacleuse, a quaetz-porphyry stone, from the Padstow area of Cornwall

The soft light highlighted the patterns & traces of colouring (medieval or later?).

Oh the indignity wrought by the Victorians!

Cast off, hidden and ignored after the church was rebuilt, the original Romanesque font at All Saints, Braunston, Northamptonshire shows signs of a church of great antiquity now all but lost to the world. #FontsOnFriday
