UN Special Rapporteurs express grave concern over the year-long detention of #humanrights defender and political prisoner Anar Mammadli, coinciding with the opening of the trial against him, now postponed to 2 June. #FreeAnar @ginitastar.bsky.social @marylawlorhrds.bsky.social
Defending human rights should never be considered a crime. There are serious concerns that Anar Mammadli’s detention and prosecution may be in retaliation for his human rights work and his engagement with UN mechanisms. Civic participation, independent election monitoring, and cooperation with international mechanisms are the foundation of democratic societies. Criminalising these activities undermines the rule of law. This is said by four UN special rapporteurs.
🚨“Arbitrary, unjustified, and politically motivated.”
UN human rights experts sound alarm on the year-long detention of human rights defender Anar Mammadli in #Azerbaijan.
The charges must be dropped.
He must be released—now.

The background is divided diagonally — red on the left and dark blue on the right — with a beige border. At the top right, the website "www.free-anar.site" is displayed in small text. At the bottom, bold navy blue capital letters read: "FREEDOM FOR ANAR MAMMADLI." The overall design uses a limited color palette of red, dark blue, beige, and muted cyan.
