Fukuzawa's internal conflicts that only echo inside his head, and Ranpo's hidden feelings about the drastic changes in his life. “Do you understand the consequences of what you’ve done? Do you even know how to care?” He said, amusement and disappointment wrapped and swirled, impossible to pull apart. Ranpo, of course and exactly as he expected, bursted into laughter. “Oh, c’mon! You may fool everyone else, but not me, tsk. You wanted to do that just as much as I did.” That was true, and so Fukuzawa didn’t try to deny it; he was still astonished by how the only actual… lie? Story? A bit of both? How the only actual time he hadn’t told Ranpo the full truth it had worked out. And so, trying again seemed too much of an effort, too much of a risk. Especially when it came to the most obvious things. “Alright, I did. I will give you that.” But he hadn’t, because having proper manners mattered. Also because, after having taken Ranpo under his wing, his patience had grown quite a lot. For obvious reasons. “Still, I must scold you a bit for it. You cannot be rude to clients, especially if we want this to work.”
Being polite without reason was also important, too, but Fukuzawa couldn’t bring himself to add so in that moment. After all, Ranpo’s redaction had come from said client being even ruder. “Hm, it should be enough with my amazing detective skills.” Ranpo was on the verge of pouting, and he had to (only) mentally agree; Fukuzawa was of the opinion that a job well done should be considered above anything else as well. But at the same time, when dealing directly with the people you were working for, he had come to learn that wasn’t enough. (Also, the fact he had come to learn instead of having it infused may or may not say something about him, but Fukuzawa wouldn’t pick up on it until later on.) “Just… let me do the talking in other regards, then you get the spotlight when speaking about the case itself.” The rest, they could work on it with time. He hoped, at least.
