I was visiting family over the Easter weekend, and the 8 year old was very keen to listen in on and participate in the political discourse dominating the conversation. They asked to stay up to watch the English debate. I said they could watch the first half hour, but they were so interested and engaged and had so many smart comments and questions that I allowed them to stay up for the whole thing. They had lots of great ideas they said they would implement if they were Prime Minister, and as the night wore on, announced they may like to run for PM someday. They'd have my vote! On Good Friday, I looked up the polling station for a family member, and the whole family went along for the experience. The 8 year old asked Elections Canada workers many questions and was very excited to watch the entire process, including going behind the barrier to watch their parent mark the ballot before putting in it in the ballot box. That experience inspired a home election, pictured here. A landslide with 100% voter turnout and 75% of the vote for Mark Carney. This kid is going to be so excited to see the real results when they wake up in the morning!
