Part of a conversation with Claude AI (including my spelling mistakes): Claude AI: Shall I implement that with a latitude-dependent window — 45 minutes for mid-latitude paths, relaxing toward 90 minutes when either endpoint is above 55° latitude?Yes, if you're sure. User: Whay di you suggest 2 hours in the first place if it's too wide? Claude AI: Honestly, I was being too conservative when I first wrote it — trying to avoid false negatives (missing a real grey line) and not thinking carefully enough about the physics. I should have reasoned through the D-layer recombination timescale and terminator speed before picking a number, rather than choosing a round figure that felt "safe." That was sloppy and I should have got it right first time. Sorry about that. Yes, I'm confident in the 45-minute / latitude-dependent approach. Let me implement it.
Whilst using Claude AI to tweak the code, Claude openly admitted to being guilty of "AI slop" 😂

Space Weather Ops dashboard at 22h38 UT 03 April 2026
Space Weather
Geomagnetic conditions have calmed and are now at G1 levels.
Solar wind speed is is just under 700km/s with the Bz between 0 and -5nT.

Space Weather
Despite a very strong AE (auroral electrojet) and a solar wind speed of 711km/s, the IMF is now in positive territory, meaning very little or no aurora for the time being 😠
#spaceweather

A strong G3 geomagnetic storm is in progress. Aurora may be visible at lower mid-latitudes.
Aurora is being reported by amateur radio operators down to ~52°N over Europe.

Space Weather
Earth is now in the influence of the very fast solar wind from a coronal hole. The solar wind speed is exceeding 800km/s.
The IMF Bz has swung south to ~ -10nT, causing G1 geomagnetic storm conditions. Aurora is being reported at high latitudes.

CME impact detected at L1
Late as usual, the CME has arrived at L1. Effects at Earth should be expected in 45-60 minutes. Bz is currently slightly southward.

A G2 geomagnetic storm watch is in effect until 00h UT tonight.
A G1 watch is in effect for 01 and 02 April.
