general strike is not just quitting your job or walking out one day. It's a coordinated efusal to keep the system running. That includes labor, spending, and participation. Work stoppage Talk to coworkers. Identify choke points. Plan collective sick days, walkouts, slowdowns, or coordinated time off. Target high-visibility moments. Rotate actions to avoid burnout and firings. Spending strike Stop giving your money to non-essential businesses. No fast food, no Amazon, no streaming, no extras. Redirect spending to local, small, or worker-run operations if you can. When possible, stock up ahead of time to limit purchases during strike windows. Mutual aid striking isn't possible for everyone without support. That has to be built in from the start. If you need help, take it. Use community fridges. Look for food swaps, local aic groups, neighborhood networks. You are not the exception. Survival is not selfish. If you can offer something, do it. Cook. Share rides. Watch someone's kid. Cover part of their rent. Set up a free table. Trade what you have. Disruption Not everyone can walk out. But you can shut things down in other ways. March. Block traffic. Occupy space. Interrupt business. Make noise where they don't want it. They want you quiet. Be unignorable. Organize where you are This isn't waiting for the perfect day. Start now. Talk to people. Build trust. Make a lan in your workplace, building, or neighborhood. Figure out who's with you and what you can pull off together. Then grow it. General Strikes Work Political scientist Erica Chenoweth studied over 300 uprisings and found that nonviolent movements with at least 3.5% active participation almost always succeeded.
