Very successful #globalbigday 🪶 today on a short trip to the San Francisco Bay Area -- 48 species including 8 lifers! Particularly proud that 5 of the lifers were notoriously difficult shorebirds (willet, least sandpiper, black oystercatcher, wandering tattler, and black turnstone).

Where are you counting?Maybe you are North of me as our Juncos haven't arrived for winter yet.Many on your list are still around/or are year 'round residents for us here in SW Ohio. (Wild Turkeys, Killdeer,Carolina wrens, GBH, goldfinch, mallard, wood duck, Canada geese, etc) #GlobalBigDay

Female has rich chestnut crown to nape extending to the back, low white forehead black throat; mantle and wings black, bold white wingbar; back to uppertail-coverts white, breast with blackish scaling.

A poor image of a spectacular bird – the Chestnut-naped Forktail (Enicurus ruficapillus), female. Seeing them fly with that forked tail is a joy.

Yukon birders were out in force yesterday, participating in #GlobalBigDay. Despite snow piling down in the morning (in Whitehorse, at least), they recorded 107 species on 133 separate checklists! The last species of the day was a Boreal Owl heard singing at 11:51 pm! #birds
