First properly sunny hike on stage 12 of #GMRingway: from just outside Rochdale across moors, hills and down valleys to Bury.
Tough but enjoyable!
Had planned to do a bit more of #GMRingway on Saturday, but head cold has appeared from nowhere. Not just bunged up, but it's affecting my sleep too; woke up every two hours last night.
Absolutely knackered.
Well, the moors nearly killed me!
Absolutely exhausted, but so glad got that stage of the #GMRingway done!
Norden>Bury's next, but might leave that a few weeks!
On the way to Littleborough to start the last half of #GMRingway! So far, sky looks okay, but there's definitely rain in those clouds!
See you in Rochdale!
Hope to get back on the #GMRingway soon. Once I've got Rochdale and Bury done, the Bolton and Wigan stages are easier to get to, so might get it finished faster!
This week's walking has certainly loosened the joints for this year's hiking!

Quick round-up of 2025.
448 miles walked over 36 days. Just the six history walks (4 in three days!), but also 7 stages of the #GMRingway; a two day travel writing experiment; and 44 #SlowWaysUK.
Less than last year, that injury in the Summer making all the difference!
Gorgeous 10mile hike today with family. Marple - Broadbottom on the GM Ringway. Again, really impressed with the @gojauntly.bsky.social app
Can't recommend the #GMRingway enough
It's grim up north....

Thanks to the lovely team from the GM Ringway Association; and Rebecca and Christine, the stage guardians (and Rebecca's cockerpoo Ellie), for taking me out round our section of the 200 mile route around Greater Manchester #GMRingway #LisaSmartMP
#GMRingway stage 19 - anyone looking to do this in the next couple of weeks? Looking to share cab/car to get over Warburton bridge.
A very damp stage 9 of #GMRingway today: Greenfields to Newhey.
Canals, lots of hills and moors, and despite the wet weather, an exhilarating route.
Getting close to halfway!
That's Stage 8 of the #GMRingway ticked off. From Broadbottom to Greenfield, down country lanes, through fields, and across hills and moors. The first wild route, but certainly one of the most exhilarating!
Decided to ignore the official diversion of stage 8 of the #GMRingway and head across the moors to Chew Reservoir, and along the ridge to Alphin and so down to Greenfield.
It's a nice walk, and not far from the proper route.
Was quite looking forward to wandering across the wilds of the Saddleworth moors tomorrow's leg of #GMRingway, but Chew Road being closed by United Utilities has made diversions necessary.
It was supposed to be open weekends, but can't find anything concrete.

Can highly recommend the GM Ringway route - 20 stages that take you all around Greater Manchester. Brilliantly mapped out with good directions for people like me who are navigationally challenged!

Nice day's wandering yesterday on stage 7 of the #GMRingway: Marple to Broadbottom. Up and over Werneth Low, the long distance path is definitely hitting hilly country!
Another part of the #GMRingway ticked off. Today: Stage 6, Strines to Marple, via Mellor.
Hills, hills, hills and a canal to wind down. Great route, lovely day!
That's two more stages of the #GMRingway under the belt. I'll cover them in more detail once I get home.
Great day's walking (16 miles), but the path starts heading uphill from here, so maybe just one stage at a time from now!
Planning on doing stages 4 and 5 of #GMRingway this week. Put it off too long!
Should be good, and not only will it be a quarter of the route done, it'll be close to the start of uphill moorland stages.
Well that is it. All 300 km of #gmringway walked during 2024. Stage 20 was a lovely stroll in winter sunshine from Stretford via the Quays into town. I highly recommend doing the walks. We have discovered wonderful new places and found out what lies between familiar destinations.
Yesterday we did our penultimate stage of #gmringway, Irlam to Altrincham, in the somewhat eerie fog. As we did stage 19 a few weeks ago (out of order!) we only have the final stage 20 to go!

The fourth stage of the GM Ringway goes from Bramhall to Middlewood taking you through Carr Wood, beautiful Happy Valley, past Poynton Pool, down into Norbury Hollow finally ending up at Middlewood Station.
A leafy, suburban walk with some great riverside views.

Following those two short starters, onto the main course: stage 3 of the #GMRingway, Didsbury-Bramhall. A wonderful route through ever-changing landscapes: river, woods, roads, railway.
The third stage of the GM Ringway goes from Didsbury Village to Bramhall, going past Abney Hall, Cheadle, through the Ladybrook Valley and finally ending up at the doubly-named and beautiful Bramhall Hall.

The second stage of the GM Ringway is a leisurely 10.5 km stroll from Sale Water Park to Didsbury. Most of it is along the Mersey valley with great views across the ancient river. I popped in to see Jayne Sinclair when I was in DIdsbury.

It's a dour, grey day in Manchester, but, on the bright side, at least it isn't snowing...yet.

Great to hear Clare Balding walking a section of the #GMRingway, Greater Manchester’s new walking trail, on BBC Radio 4.
It’s a 200-mile route split into 20 stages but there's lots of smaller, accessible walks involving the trail on the GoJauntly app. #GMMoving
