With some difficult to read—at times downright disturbing—body horror and descriptions of Marguerite’s worsening physical and mental state, we learn more about her relationship with her siblings, father and, most influential of all, her mother. We learn about the man she is to marry, and, through flashbacks, come to fill in the gaps of her existence prior to her imprisonment. An excellent, atmospheric story. Highly recommend.
