Filled my cup in Denver, CO with many incredible pal care and hospice clinicians. Despite the chaos going on in the country, being with these friends renewed my sense of hope. #hapc2025 /1

A page of notes about cannabis formulations, dosing, and administration in a mix of handwritten and typed formats. In the top right is an image of a cannabis leaf, and in bottom left is a German Shepherd wearing sunglasses with the words, “be cool man” next to it.
My sketch(y)(ish) notes from Thursday’s session, “How Many Gummies Again?” Very well done and informative session — is it too much of a stretch to say jam-packed with learning points? #hapc25 #hapc2025 #hapc #goodnotes
About to get my conference poster and abstract appreciation game on.

Great quote from Dr. Martin that summarizes the discrepancy between the audit efforts, intents, and impacts. #hapc2025
This is a huge hit to smaller hospices. The average hospice in America has a 100 patient census. This can lead to bankruptcy of the non giant corporate hospices. #hapc2025
While a post payment chart is audited and under review, the hospice has to give the money they received BACK while they fight the audit. This can take years. #hapc2025
The cost to organizations providing hospice care is massive with the increasing audits. Which means they may be more risk adverse and not want to take patients who may trigger an audit and may have less money to pay for “extra” uncovered services. #hapc2025
Presenters from excellent hospices talk about being audited frequently for long lengths of stay in inpatient units. But the fraudulent agencies would just discharge these patients from hospice and send them back to hospital care! #hapc2025
Re: new hospice regulations “these regulations do nothing to target fraud. The bank is being robbed and the police are outside giving parking tickets. These auditors find a missing signature and they celebrate back at the office.” #hapc2025
The litmus test of curiosity is whether or not you are willing to be surprised.

“We can ask curious questions but if you’re not actually curious people will know that.” - Krista Tippett #hapc2025
This plenary in the first one in many years where the speakers seem to know what we actually do in palliative care. Thank you Krista Tippett. #hapc2025
