The crowds stood back and watched.
The chatter reduced, all were watching intently. Some even had their fingers crossed.
Those in bright high Vis jackets spoke quickly into radios as the hush spread.
Then pointing, the new telephone mast rose up behind the shops.
They would have reception.

The towns industry had collapsed, the mineral had been harvested and all that remained were people broken by their exploitation, like the mutilated landscape around them. The water poisoned, houses made worthless and the single shop that remained was a mega-monopoly who charged what they wanted with impunity. This might be different, the town gently rumbled with the hope of their solidarity. Would anyone lead them? That morning a local paper had the headline: COUNCIL ABANDONS TOWN TO BECOME WASTE SITE. Whitehall agrees to CPO fixed at current market rate... Was this their watershed moment, or was it time to give up? The town, like their options, had become exhausted.
#hbp62 intended this to feel like a rallying cry, but it came out very defeatist 😬
"That boy gave me life and my voice," Cosmo said. "He was the watershed moment for everyone. Hell, in a messed up way, Jin woke up Amarula."
"What would've happened if Jin wasn't here?" Tharra said.
"If I fell into my darkness, I would've let Amarula have the bounty." #hbp62
#hbp62 - who doesn't like a good defenestration?
When the feral cats had killed every single rat in town, and the people could eat food that was dropped on the ground for longer than 5 seconds, it was a watershed moment for the community.

"A watershed moment for the community," the mayor said, shaking hands with his brother, who smiled and nodded at his best friend since college, who loaned the money from his father, who was mayor before the mayor's father, who owned half the businesses in town.
"A real change is coming."

It had been a long ceremony in the village, with applause as each new facility was unveiled. There was the vegetable shed, the salted meat shed, and lastly, the filtered drinking supply.
'This is a watershed moment for the community!' the village elder proudly announced.

Mrs. Moore hasn't been acting like herself lately. Last couple days, she's been standing in the middle of the road, screaming about the end.
Now the town is gathered around her corpse. Her throat's been cut. She's floating in the air, suspended like a puppet by strings we can't see.
It was a watershed moment for the community. Santa, after years of dirty chimneys, leftover cookies and cold milk, had finally had enough. He stood on top of the clocktower, Rudolph glaring at his side, and told them he wanted warm cookies or they could buy themselves presents next Christmas. #hbp62
"If he has anyone to rage war upon, it is and it shall be me..."

"Christ," he grumbled as he read the newspaper. "This might be worse than that time old man Benson got loaded on Wild Turkey and stole the ice cream truck."
"Twas truly a watershed moment for the community."
"One we did not need to see surpassed!" he snapped. "Not in my lifetime anyway!"

The crowd stilled as the elder stepped forward, her breath clouding in the cold. “For years, we’ve walked as shadows, unseen. Tonight, we rise—not with anger, but unity.” Hands joined, a wave of connection spreading. She gestured to them. “This moment—we reclaim what was always ours.”

Atmospheric entry fires
burn across our hull
as we descend
My bucolic fever incurable
and grandma was over 90
we were leaving two that day
to sail towards Fenzendi:
the endless wave of death
I carried Fenzean tech
combined in new ways
anti-gravity yet also anti-anti-time
a watershed moment

In ’62, Seattle caught
the pulse of a new world—
The Space Needle rose,
a needle stitching stars.
Neon flickered,
alive with visions,
as dreams went a-sailing,
carried by the winds
toward the unknown.
The fair’s light rippled,
and the world began to change,
one spark that ignited a new era.
