Hebrews 8 Out with the Old: Why the First Covenant Had to Go S7E16 - Biblical Tapestry The Mosaic covenant was anticipatory of the new covenant as God had always planned for a better covenant.  The first covenant did not fail but was insufficient by design.

Sin severs us from the presence of God. Our sin and God’s holiness are completely incompatible, yet God promised to reconcile people to Himself through the mediator of a new covenant.
