Despite being born in the #Najd region in the #ArabianPeninsula, my #Arabic is more akin to the #Hejazi than #Nadji.
That, and compared to #MSA (Modern Saudi Arabic) which I don't completely understand, conversationally speaking, I understand #Levantine (i.e. #Palestine🍉) Arabic better.

More than 1,300 Hajj pilgrims died this year when humidity and heat pushed past survivable limits. It’s just the start www.downtoearth.org.in/climate-chan... via #Capitalism💀#ClimateCrisis #SevereWeather #Wetbulb #Heatwave #Heatstroke #Pilgrims #Hajj #Mecca #Hejaz #SaudiArabia
Return to my long-neglected project "The Arab Revolt and the #Ottoman #Hejaz Campaign". Photo of Sharif Hussein with Ronald Storrs taken in #Jeddah on 5 May 1917. Storrs gave the date wrong. Of course, caricature is providing better understanding of the meeting. #FWW
The ache of burning distances. Instant cities. Ancient pilgrim trails grooved into solid rock by millions of human and camel feet—yet fading and unwalked for generations.

Nine years ago today on the @outofedenwalk I recorded my 16th Milestone (100-mile marker) while tottering out of the #Hejaz desert of #SaudiArabia & into #Jordan along the Gulf of Aqaba. No one was around to celebrate. @InsideNatGeo Milestone 16: Exit https://t.co/Aqw3gUCwjm

I was talking to a friend recently about pastoral lifeways, about the comfort of living with large animals, when I recalled a lesson from walking through #SaudiArabia: Always air-dry your camel after washing it, or it shrinks. @outofedenwalk #Camels #Hejaz https://t.co/xhZF3isDoa

When @lllalilll & I trekked the #Hejaz desert of #SaudiArabia, we detoured to Al-Ula—an old pilgrim’s stop abandoned to time & sand. Here, Ali writes about how even such remote waypoints can change. Today, it’s a major cultural tourism site. @tezar_ksa 1/ https://tezar.sa/archives/35434

Rare photo, shot by a french pilot in 1927, of one of the last pilgrim caravans crossing the vast #Hejaz desert to Mecca, #SaudiArabia. Big camel caravans fired cannons to signal the day's start. Pic shared by @lllalilll, who walked 900 kms in the Hejaz with me. #EdenWalk 1/5
