An A3 page of an isometric sketchbook. The page is coved on hexagonal shapes of various sizes. The hexagons away from the center are less complete. The colours used are bright primary colours. Red and yellow. The hexagons have had random sections painted either red or yellow. Where areas of the same colour touch they have been outlined in thin black marker. The paint is thin in some areas and thicker in others. This is particularly obvious on the red sections. Despite sounding clinical and sharp the paint application and marker have a human hand made quality to them. I have encoded words into the design

Playing with gouache and hexglyphs. I tried a flatter look to the paint once but it seemed to suck all the vitality out of it. I think a key thing for me is to see the human element.

A complex maze labyrinth like. Hexaglyphs, rest over the top in hues of red, yellow, gray and white It is still in progress. A hexglyph is a hexagon shaped cypher based around binary. A white path winds through the hexagons.

Currently I'm really really stupidly chuffed with this. I sometimes forget how capable I can be. Despite my inability to get a clean run at things I can still impress myself.

A close up of a section of my painting. Id just about finished for the day when I realised the section pictured was stuck in a loop. I had to reconnect it to the wider labyrinth. My brain found this difficult as it had dropped out of my arse for the day A white line wriggles over blue hexagon segments. The line is roughly painted on.

A close up of a 3 ring hexglyph. The paint work is much neater but still needs some refinement. A white line wriggles through hexagon segments painted in dar and plae blue the background is a pale warm brown. The board is scored in lines that have the internal angles of a hexagon.

The background is constructed of hexagons of different sizes. They are painted in loose brushstrokes. Their colours range from pale muddy yellows to dirty orange pinks. The central section of the image is occupied by 5 clearer brighter hexagons. These hexagons are linked together. Painted in warm Orange, cool green grey and a cool pale almost white cadmium yellow. The pale yellow forms a twisting path through the hexagons. The path is bordered by the grey-green. The hexagons contain information that has been turned into a cypher. The path through the hexagons or hexglyphs is an asymmetrical labyrinth. There are elements I would change in hindsight.

Back on my hexglyph labyrinths. My other work feeds into these hexglyphs either conceptually or via technique development.

Inspired by #RyanMcGinness I'm rekindling my interest in books more to come on this.
