37 years today, 97 #Liverpool fans went to an FA Cup semi final and never came home.
I remember this vividly from my youth - and the cover up by authorities in the decades after.
Never forgotten, law changes still in process…

It’s 37 years since the tragic events at #Hillsborough.
BBC Radio 2 commentator Peter Jones and his final report on that day.
Simple, yet very powerful words.
NO ONE should go to a football match and not come home.
RIP The 97 #Liverpool fans.

On the 37th anniversary of the #Hillsborough disaster, the city of Liverpool joins the families of those whose loved ones were unlawfully killed - and all those affected by the 1989 disaster - in demanding that a #HillsboroughLaw be put in place in full. No more delays. No more excuses.
At the Memorial Gardens to the 97, Wallasey Town Hall appropriately opposite Anfield Stadium on a dark wet afternoon remembering the 97 pour souls, the survivors and families 37 years on, they will never be forgotten YNWA #Hillsborough #LFC
Hillsborough in 1989 was just a minor disaster in the great scheme of things but it illustrated how the system of privilege in Britain works and continues to work to the advantage of the rich and powerful and against those who still suffer. #Grenfell #PostOffice #Windrush #Hillsborough
Everton have unveiled a new permanent tribute to the 97 at their new stadium. Lovely tribute

Today is the anniversary of the #Hillsborough disaster where 97 #LFC fans died bc of police incompetence compounded by the despicable actions of the West Yorks Police and a UK media infrastructure hellbent on blaming Liverpool fans for the disaster.

To the families & the victims ♥️97♥️ So sorry 🤗🤗 #Hillsborough #Liverpool #LFC
37 years let it sink in.
37 years for justice.
37 years and they still fight for their CHILDREN AND LOVED ONES.
Institutional injustice is beyond comprehension.
I am proud to be from Liverpool.
I have met some of the families through work and their dignity humbles me.

Heute vor 37 Jahren starben 96 Menschen in #Hillsborough.
Jahrelang versuchte die #Polizei die eigene Verantwortung den #Fans anzulasten. Heute kennen wir die Wahrheit und die Lügen der Polizei.

A poem called "Ninety-Seven Don't Buy The Sun". Ninety-seven— not numbers, not noise— names you tried to drown in ink and filth. Crushed once in steel, crushed again in print— your headlines did what the fences started. You called them drunk. You called them thieves. You sold lies like souvenirs and counted the profit. Decades crawl— justice still handcuffed, truth still dragged through mud you refuse to wash off your hands. But listen— anger doesn’t fade. It sharpens. Ninety-seven names, like blades against your paper— and every one of them cuts back. It's a very angry short poem I've been writing for days, ahead of the anniversary. The fact their families haven't seen justice rankles, and the fact that the newspaper who smeared the victims is still in operation makes my blood boil.
Here's a poem. #Hillsborough #JFT97
