The Autumn Hippie Day is another wonderful occasion for hippies in Moscow to gather and celebrate the arrival of fall. This day is usually held on September 1 and is called "Hippies Welcoming Autumn." It's a time for old friends to meet, enjoy music, communicate, and preserve the spirit of freedom and unity with nature. Traditionally, such events take place in a cozy and friendly atmosphere, "Under the Pine" near the Grand Palace in the Moscow Tsaritsyno Park-Reserve, where people can share memories, sing songs, play the guitar, and simply enjoy the beauty of nature. Autumn, with its colorful landscapes, symbolizes new beginnings and cycles, which perfectly align with the hippie philosophy. (text corresponds to the situation before 01/09/2023)
Autumn Hippie Gathering in Moscow, "Under the Pine Tree" near the Grand Palace in Tsaritsyno Park. There are several opinions about the origins of the tradition of gathering in the park "under the pine tree." The version that seems most plausible goes like this: in the early 1970s, peaceful Soviet hippies, allegedly with some provocation from law enforcement, held a rally on Children's Day to protest the Vietnam War. The rally was dispersed, many participants lost their jobs or were expelled from educational institutions, and some (according to rumors) were even imprisoned. The following year, those who remained free gathered in a clearing near the ruins of the palace, on the wild outskirts of what was then Moscow. This tradition continued every year until 2023, when the hippies were pushed out of their usual spot (which had long since become a modern park) to distant areas on the outskirts of Moscow. But even after more than 40 years, people still gather twice a year: on June 1st and September 1st. Both hippies and any nonconformists who share the hippie ideals of freedom, love, and peace come together.

Yet, even after more than 40 years, people still gather twice a year: on June 1 and September 1. Both hippies and any nonconformists who share the hippie ideals of freedom, love, and peace come together.
Autumn Hippie Gathering in Moscow, "Under the Pine Tree" near the Grand Palace in Tsaritsyno Park. There are several opinions about the origins of the tradition of gathering in the park "under the pine tree." The most plausible version goes like this: in the early 1970s, peaceful Soviet hippies, allegedly with some provocation from law enforcement, held a rally on Children's Day to protest the Vietnam War. The rally was dispersed, many participants lost their jobs or were expelled from educational institutions, and some (again, according to rumors) were even imprisoned. The following year, those who remained free gathered in a clearing near the ruins of the palace, on the wild outskirts of Moscow at the time. This tradition continued every year until 2023, when the hippies were pushed out of their usual spot (which had long since become a modern park) to distant areas on the outskirts of Moscow. Yet, even after more than 40 years, people still gather twice a year: on June 1 and September 1. Both hippies and any nonconformists who share the hippie ideals of freedom, love, and peace come together.
