A mature cottonwood tree grows out of the depths of a sinkhole in a huge sandstone monolith. We see its shadow cast starkly against the red rock wall behind it. The rest of the flat, enclosed basin is covered in grama grass and low desert scrub. A large shadowed space to the right of the tree appears to be another sinkhole. The sky above is brilliant blue.

Gotta watch your step atop Dance Hall Rock in Grand Staircase-Escalante Natl. Mon. - they don't call it #slickrock for nuthin', and if you fall in getting out will be a problem.
