On my walk before the heavens opened up I saw this crab apple tree! I looked it up and they are called horse apples. We called them crab apples when we were kids. I hadn’t seen one in YEARS. I was excited to see it.

A picture of a partially uprooted tree trunk. It is tilted at a 45 degree angle to the right, pointing up just above the horizon to the sky. The edge of the long trunk is just blocking out the sunrise. There are several bare trees in the background and a bike path to the right. This picture was taken in winter but the grass is still green.

An upward facing angle of a partially uprooted tree trunk. It is at a 45 degree angle pointing to the left. Due to the extreme angle of the picture a majority of the long trunk is above the horizon. The sky is very blue with some clouds in the distance. There are some large wooden panels lying on the roots to the left of the trunk in the picture. Due to the extreme angle of the picture the roots on the right of the trunk are pointed at various angles above the horizon line. There is a shed behind a fence on the right of the frame and a bike path on the left. The trunk itself has quite a large amount of fresh growth along its entire length. This picture was taken in late spring.

A picture of a large tree trunk. It has had many of its limbs cut at different points in time. The trunk itself is very knotted. Sprouting from the back of the trunk is a lush dense portion of new tree growth. There is green grass below the trunk with a ring of brown around the immediate trunk. This picture was taken in late spring.

My next set on this #foliagefriday is this amazing Osage orange or #horseapple trunk. This tree-folk has seen many long days and still keeps on growing. #nature #photography #naturephotography #tree #trunk #osageorange #local #treefolk #ent #seasonal #rebirth

After 8 years in this house my #OsageOrange #trees have produced their first #fruits (6 so far)!

A sacred tree to native people – prized for #bows – and spread through trade. Otherwise fascinating for rot-resistant wood, and that #GroundSloths probably loved these fruits.
