First post on another platform. But very humbled to be acknowledged as a meritorious abstract for our economic model comparing non-surgical management to total knee replacement. Thank you @hsraanz.bsky.social for a fantastic three days. First time attendee, long time admirer. #hsr24

#HSR24 closes with a panel of funders and policy makers chaired by @aliepea.bsky.social - still many cautions and considerations for HSR in the digital age, but also so many opportunities… many of which have been highlighted by the fantastic presentations over the last three days!

Speaker next to a projected slide

The Pitfalls
Funding issues potentially problematic
Value based care not incentivised
Fall between State and Commonwealth responsibilities
Opportunity cost in developing models
Sufficient volume is required
Benefits may not occur within a year - capacity increasing
Possibility of choosing options that do not benefit society the most
A greater emphasis on the value of freed up resources is required - what do they mean?
Did not appear to support a reduction in expenditure but rather an increase in capacity
There are choices to be made - what are the "best" things to be doing?

Really enjoyed this morning’s symposium from Wesley Research Institute and colleagues on virtual healthcare. So relevant given the stresses on our health system around workforce, equity of access, and rising costs. Well done all!

I’ve always found it a bit gobsmacking the the US actually ban the use of QALYs in healthcare decision making! Mike Drummond asks the #HSR24 audience if we’re aware of any other instance of exclusion of research evidence being legislated!
