Houston-Area Roads Identified as Particularly Dangerous in New Study A recent study analyzing data from 2019 to 2023 has identified several Houston-area roadways as particularly dangerous, with I-45 ranking as the deadliest in Texas. The analysis, conducted by Future Bail Bonds, examined crash data from nearly 100,000 U.S. roads, pinpointing the top 150 with the highest number of fatal crashes. Nationally, I-15 in California topped the list with 196 fatal crashes. Houston's I-45 recorded 88 fatal accidents during that five-year period, securing its position as the 16th deadliest road in the country and the most hazardous in Texas. A separate segment of I-45 North was also flagged, appearing as the 124th deadliest in the U.S. with 44 fatal crashes. This stretch of highway is currently undergoing a controversial expansion project. Beyond I-45, other Harris County highways also made the list. I-10 was ranked 22nd deadliest nationwide with 76 fatal crashes, placing it as the third deadliest in Texas after I-35 in Austin. The report highlights a sobering statistic: motor vehicle crashes resulted in 186,284 deaths across the United States between 2019 and 2023. Rounding out the list of dangerous roads in the Houston area, FM 1960 ranked 114th with 45 fatal crashes, and I-610 secured the 131st spot with 43 fatal crashes. Several other Texas roads also appeared among the deadliest in the nation, including I-30 in Dallas County, I-410 in Bexar County, and I-10 in El Paso County.
