Instead, work prioritisation is now demonstrated through enhanced accessibility, afforded by the flexibility of connectedness. While extending accessibility demonstrates one’s own commitment to work, having an increased online presence – and the associated interaction this entails – expands the volume of social interaction within a network of co-workers and clients. This subtly influences collective behaviour while solidifying new ways of working. Digital demands take precedence, endorsing work centrality, despite its intrusion into domestic space. The value of connectedness is reinforced by the need to deliver results-based work in a time-pressured environment, which escalates work prioritisation.
They also talk about digital presenteeism as a way in which workers perform the new mode of #idealworker - which is a theme we found in the @the-tuc.bsky.social project with #BME workers, and is the focus of the new project I am planning (watch this space).
