A newspaper-style comic strip, drawn by a human woman. This comic is in black and white, so when you see descriptions of colors below, just know that they're represented by screen tones.

The comic is titled Ride by Night and it's set in the Star Trek universe.

Panel 1: Captain Solana, Lt Cdr Ti'Ana, and Lt Cdr Idaris are getting prepped to go undercover in the 23rd century. Solana is wearing a The Cage-style turtleneck and trousers uniform in command gold with a rank of Lt Commander. Ti'Ana is wearing a TOS-style skant in operations red with Lieutenant stripes. She's also consulting an electronic clipboard. Idaris is in a command gold TOS skant with Lt JG stripes. She's also using a hypospray to inject her thigh with HRT that makes you look like a human.
Solana: Aren't you two wearing the wrong colors?
Ti'Ana: For some reason, xenolinguistics is in the ops division in this century.
Idaris: And I just don't look good in red.

Panel 2: Solana and Ti'Ana look skeptically at Idaris. Idaris shrugs. Also, the injection has taken effect so her Trill spots and Bajoran nose ridges are gone, making her look Human.
Solana: So >YOU'RE< going to pretend to be a command officer? >YOU?<
Idaris: If it were that hard, they wouldn't let captains do it.

Panel 3: We're in the shuttle bay, where a shuttle craft has just crashed into two parked shuttles. It's rolled on its side and left scratches on the floor, evidence of a landing trajectory that shouldn't really be possible inside the bay. Solana and Idaris stand nearby.
  Intertitle text: 47 minutes later...
Solana: We're going to have >WORDS< when we get back to our time, Lieutenant.
Idaris: I'll be a Lt. Commander again when we get back.
  Solana: We'll see.

Footnote text: Having to go undercover as a Human in the 23rd century is the worst. What's even the point of wearing that uniform if it's not to show off your Trill spots?

Normally Ezmi has more tact than to say something like that to A) her captain and B) her girlfriend who recently transferred from science to command. But she's got time travel brain. It makes you do weird things!

Panel 1: Ti'Ana and Ezmi are standing around. Ti'Ana holds up a PADD with an image of a combadge on it while Ezmi shoves some fries into her mouth.
Ti'Ana: Temporal Investigations just declassified a small collection of objects.
Idaris: Sally Ride owned a combadge??

Panel 2: Ezmi takes the PADD from Ti'Ana and gives her the cone full of fries.
Ti'Ana: Given to her by Kathryn Janeway, back when she was a Lieutenant Commander.
Ezmi: For someone who claims to hate time travel, she sure took a lot of trips to Earth's 20th century.

Panel 3: Ti'Ana has started eating the fries. Ezmi shouts excitedly.
Ezmi: Hold up. Does that mean... ADMIRAL JANEWAY IS THE REASON OUR SHIP IS NAMED AFTER SALLY RIDE!?
Ti'Ana [with a fry sticking out of her mouth]: Volume.

Footnote: Based on a true story! Sort of! Kate Mulgrew gave one of Janeway's combadges to Dr. Ride in 1995. Sally's partner, Dr. Tam O'Shaughnessy, donated it to the Smithsonian in 2013.

This is my in-universe explanation for why i've got a Luna class starship that's not named after a moon: there was a certain admiral who had a personal interest in doing something for the 400th anniverary of Sally Ride's first flight, and that's the ship she was able to snag.

Unrelated to anything else that's going on right now, if you're a fan of Star Trek comics that are both created entirely by humans AND have wildly erratic release schedules and quality levels, i MIGHT have something that could be of interest to you...

Sam and i did some brainstorming and decided that CC is a physical therapist who kind of runs the recreation deck. That means the workout/gym areas, the hobby/craft areas, and the holodecks all fall under her pervue.

It's all part of maintaining crew morale.

A full color illustration illustrated digitally by a human woman.

The drawing is of an incredibly pale, befreckled woman with ginger hair leaning against a bookshelf in a library. She's wearing a green sundress, yellow denim jacket, and yellow open toed chunky heels. She's also got a cool yellow purse.

Text says:
Meet The Artist
Esme
Rhymes with 'Says Me'
She/Fae

Then there's a row of icons: a trans flag, a sapphic flag, a demisexual flag, a neurodivergent infinity sign, and a crescent moon

Likes: Star Trek, Babylon 5, Pizza, Tacos, Audiobooks, Cute Outifts

Dislikes: Gen AI, Crowds, Braces (It's a whole thing, don't ask.)

Totally not a starfleet officer trapped in the past. Why would you say that?

A black and white mini comic page, drawn by a human woman.

Panel 1: Establishing shot. The sky is black with stars and a waxing crescent moon above snow-capped mountains. One of the stars twinkles particularly brightly.
 - Text: and then i asked that child why this night has a star.

Panel 2: We're on one of the snowy mountains. There are several birch trees that lost their leaves for winter, along with a few evergreens. A woman in a sweater walks thru the snow, following a small child in a sundress. The girl glows supernaturally and could possibly the woman when she was younger.
 - Text: and she said, so we'd know that we could see that far."

Panel 3: The woman holds an olde-timey oil lamp with both hands and the child's glowing finger reaches out E.T.-style and ignites the wick.
 - Text: "and for everything given, somthing is gained."

Panel 4: The woman holds the lamp aloft and it shines brightly, illuminating the space around her. She's in the ruins of some sort of church. The floor reomains and some pieces of walls, along with some stairs leading up to a dais on which stands the statue of the goddess Hylia. There are also several evergreen trees around. But the child is nowhere to be seen.
 - Text: "strike one match in the dark and all the world's not the same."

Footnote Text: Text adapted from Trans-Siberian Orchestra's *Dream Child*.

It's always darkest just before things start getting light again.

A full color illustration illustrated by a human woman. It's broadly meant to look like a photo shoot in a vapid glossy fashion magazine from the 90s and features two women at a cocktail party or jazz club or something, standing intimately close together, while also making sure their drinks are clearly visible for the camera. Detailed illustrations of the drinks along with simplified recipes float nearby on the page.

Oh, also these are Star Trek OCs, so they are not humans. And their drinks feature non-Earth ingredients including Tolik (a Vulcan fruit), Lida (a Trill fruit), Lidashk (Trill liqueur made from Lida), Moba (a Bajoran fruit) bitters, and Jumja (a Bajoran tree) sap ("It's A Natural Sweetness™").

On the left is Ti'Ana, a Vulcan/El-Aurian hybrid with dark skin. She's wearing wide straight leg suit pants with a matching waistcoat, an early 20th century oxford collar shirt with puffy long sleeves, and a tie.

Their cocktail is a Velvet Nebula: 1 part Cacao Vodka, 1 part Coffee Liqueur, 1 part Tolik Syrup, and 2 parts Cream. Served on the rocks, garnished with Vulcan Mocha Powder and Embalmed Toliks.

On the right is Ezmi Idaris, an incredibly pale Bajoran/Trill hybrid with freckles and Trill spots. She's wearing a Roddenberry-length (extremely short) cocktail dress with a frilly peticoat underneath. She's also got some strappy, chunky high heels.

Her cocktail is a Lida Drop: 1 part Lemon Juice, ½ parts Jumja Sap, 1 part Lavender Vodka, 1 part Lidashk, and a dash of Moba Bitters. Served in a martini glass with a sugared rim. Garnished with Lemon Peel and Lida Chunks.

I'm not sure how to make a Lida Drop with Earth ingredients? If you make a lemon drop that tastes basically like a purplesaurus rex kool-aid, that'll be it.

But if you're out of embalmed toliks, you could probably use maraschino cherries in your Velvet Nebula instead.

A black and white comic strip drawn by a human. It's called Ride by Night and is set on a starship in the Star Trek universe.

Panel 1: Ezmi Idaris is wearing a medical exam gown and sitting on an exam table. Nearby, Dr Leonid Serebrov is checking some readouts on a tricorder.
 - Serebrov: I want to start you on benzocyatizine.
 - Idaris: I'm allergic. Besides, my isoboramine levels are normal for an unjoined Trill.
 - Serebrov: *No*, they're *not*. Even unjoined Trill need /some/ isoboramine for healthy brain function.

Panel 2: Ezmi points to her nose in illustration of her mixed heritage.
 - Idaris: But I'm half Bajoran. And the Prophets decided */I/* don't get to have Trill telepathic neurotransmitters. It's been like this since I was a baby. Did you even read my medical history?

Panel 3: Dr Serebrov consults a PADD
 - Serebrov: Fine. Let's see what makes /Lt. Commander Ezmi Idaris/ */so very special/*.
 - Serebrov: Hybridization irregularities, telepathic inertness, cybernetic implants, quantum signature variance... Gender dysphoria?

Panel 4: Dr Serebrov is surprised. Ezmi is irritated.
 - Serebrov: YOU'RE TRANS!?
 - Idaris: Literally the least interesting thing on that list.

Footnote text beneath the comic: Yes, I *hav* crossed the thin membrane that separates quantum realities. What's that? You'd rather ask about my penis? Cool set of priorities, dude.

We've got two drawings next to each other.

The first is a pencil sketch from 2006 with some color added to it. It features a young lady with red hair in pig tails. She's wearing glasses, a white oxford shirt with a black tie, black sweater, black pleated mini-skirt, and black zettai ryouiki thigh highs. She's looking off to one side, unamused.

The second is of a higher, more finished quality. It's clearly the same young lady, some 20 years later. She's got red hair and glasses and is wearing a Starfleet engineering uniform. She's also got a Bajoran nose and Trill spots.

Looking at some of my old art and realizing how direct the thru-line is from how i drew myself for years and years and years pre-transition to how i draw myself now post-transition.

A black and white comic strip, set on a starship in the Star Trek universe. The name of the comic is "Ride by Night."

Panel 1: Ti'Ana is walking down a corridor, talking to the ghost of her Vulcan father. However, we do not see or hear this ghost; he only exists in her head.
-- Ti'Ana: No, I don't "believe in" the Kir'Shara, but at least >I've< read it. *YOU* think it tells you to stab poor people.
-- Ti'Ana: . . .
-- Ti'Ana: *>Of course<* it's hyperbole. It's a basic rhetorical device.

Panel 2: Ezmi approaches from the opposite direction. It is relevant to this comic that Ezmi had a Bajoran mother.
-- Ezmi: Hey, Tea Biscuit. Who are you talking to?
-- Ti'Ana: My Father's Katra is trying to lecture me on emotional maturity.
-- Ezmi: Is that what Vulcan ghosts do?

Panel 3: We just see Ti'Ana's face in this one. She's lifting one eyebrow all unimpressed, in that way that Vulcans do.
-- Ezmi: Bajoran ghosts just want to *>BORHYA<*.
-- Ti'Ana: . . .

Panel 4: Ti'Ana angrily points at the invisible/inaudible shade of her father. Ezmi is shocked and confused and possibly a bit hurt?
-- Ti'Ana: *>DAD!<* Stop saying that! She's *>actually<* very intelligent!
-- Ezmi: ???

Footnote text beneath the comic: >Borhya< is a Bajoran word for a spirit or a ghost. Because if there's one thing I love, it's a joke that needs a footnote.

Ti'Ana—a half-Vulcan, half El-Aurian woman—wearing a blue Starfleet Academy marching band uniform and holding a flute.

The uniform is BROADLY similar to a TNG uniform, but with an oxford collar and a marching band style double breasted front segment. It also has a knee-length skirt with a black layer over a very frilly blue layer.

Starfleet Academy HAS to have a marching band, right?

I bet Vulcans have mixed feelings about the concept:

"It requires immense order, discipline, and teamwork."

"Perhaps, but that does not make it logical."

A black-and-white newspaper-style comic titled Ride by Night.
You've maybe seen this one before, but it's a special edition where i updated some of the tones to better match the main comic.

Lt Commander Ezmi Idaris (a half-Trill, half-Bajoran woman) is working on a console in main engineering. An Ensign (a human woman) is speaking to her.

Ensign: Commander, can i ask you a personal question?

Idaris (Thinking): Oh no, what's it going to be? Why don't i wear a 'Bajoran earring?' Why is Ti'Ana 'more emotional' than 'other Vulcans?' What's it like inside my 'marsupial pouch?'

Idaris: *sigh* i guess?

Ensign: Would you rather fight one sehlat-sized moopsy or a hundred moopsy-sized sehlats?

Idaris: What.

I use her Bean Burrito font instead on my normal Ride by Night pages because it's a bit narrower, but i do use Girl Kisser when i do little newspaper comics.
