I have borrowed words from the valley winter's thawing echo bounding freely in the still, crisp January air, both hope and fear linger there. I have borrowed words from the gutters bent broken metal bones shudder twisting off houses, collapsed under the weight of ice, cementing loss asunder. I have borrowed words from tent domes snow-buried behind Food Lion, homes makeshift in parking lots and canal paths becoming staked in polyester body bags. I have borrowed words from long lines outside empty food banks with closed signs, the refrain repeats in a minor key the refrain repeats, hunger symphonies. I have borrowed words from you the lost and transient, the system eschews. We are all one step away from dire fates, what more can be said, what more awaits?
It originally was free verse with a scant amountof internal rhyme. Then when I went to type it, rhyming #couplets emerged. Hope it still kept its #narrative quality as much as its #lyrical one. Regardless, enjoy. Take out there. 🤗
